Hong Kong to strengthen Belt and Road hub role, says Paul Chan
Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po stated that the city is reinforcing its role as a pivotal hub for the Belt and Road Initiative, facilitating both the entry of international businesses and the expansion of mainland Chinese enterprises overseas.
Chan noted that trade with ASEAN, the Middle East, and Central Asia has grown significantly, with ASEAN remaining Hong Kong’s second-largest trading partner since 2010. Over the past five years, the number of businesses from these regions established in Hong Kong has increased by nearly 30%. He also highlighted that Hong Kong serves as a major platform for capital markets, with over 100 Belt and Road enterprises listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
The upcoming 11th Belt and Road Summit will feature a new “Go Global Chapter” specifically designed to assist mainland firms in expanding into international markets. The summit will also focus on sectors such as artificial intelligence, green technology, and energy transition.
