Hong Kong universities boost wireless charging technology and launch five‑year strategic plan

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has commercialised its wireless power transfer research, which underpins the world’s first international wireless charging standard, Qi, and the newer Qi2 standard. Led by Chair Professor Ron Hui Shu‑yuen, the team’s multi‑layer coil‑array design enabled free‑positioning charging pads that work with all portable devices, helping to reduce e‑waste and paving the way for broader adoption in consumer electronics and electric vehicles.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) unveiled its 2026‑2030 strategic plan, titled “CUHK 2026–2030: Leaping to Greatness”. The plan, framed by the TIGER action framework, focuses on talent attraction, institutional development, global engagement, education, and research innovation. Vice‑Chancellor Professor Dennis Lo Yuk‑ming highlighted the university’s aim to advance life and health sciences, artificial intelligence, quantum science and other frontier fields, aligning with Hong Kong’s and China’s broader development goals.
