Hong Kong's Ching Sung Secondary School launches AI science platform as Macau wins AI curriculum debate

Hong Kong Taoist Association Ching Sung Secondary School in Kwun Tong has built an AI‑driven interactive learning platform covering biology, chemistry, physics and integrated science. Using Google Gemini, physics teacher Chen Chun‑yi created about 80 3‑D simulators in roughly 15 minutes each, keeping costs near zero. The platform, launched in February, is used by all secondary students for DSE preparation and includes game‑like features such as the “DSE Biology Star Journey”. School principal Cai Ziliang says the system allows teachers to target learning gaps and plans to add an AI tutor and public access in the future.

At the same time, the 6th Hong Kong‑Macau Inter‑school Debate Tournament debated whether AI should become a compulsory subject in Hong Kong secondary schools. Macau’s Yong Yan Secondary School argued that AI literacy does not require a mandatory course, winning the debate and reclaiming the overall championship from Hong Kong. The contest highlighted differing views on the Education Bureau’s Digital Education Blueprint and the AI literacy framework, with participants citing curriculum standardisation versus flexible skill development.
