AI integration in Hong Kong and regional education

Educational institutions in Hong Kong and surrounding regions are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence and digital technologies into curricula and administration.

In Hong Kong, individual schools have begun implementing AI-driven interactive learning platforms. For example, Ching Sung Secondary School launched a platform using Google Gemini to provide 3-D simulators for science subjects to assist with DSE preparation. Concurrently, debates have emerged regarding whether AI should be a compulsory subject in secondary schools, highlighting tensions between curriculum standardization and flexible skill development.

Broader regional initiatives are also expanding. In New Taipei City, the Education Department has recognized numerous creative AI applications designed to reduce administrative workloads and has deployed over 700 AI robots. In Hong Kong, the ‘Innovation and Digital Technology Learning Partnership Programme’ has facilitated collaborations between schools and startups to develop STEAM-related solutions, including the use of Virtual Reality and AI-driven automation tools.
