Horneburg Fire Destroys Garden Shed and Chicken Coop, 40 Birds Rescued

A fire broke out in a garden plot in Horneburg, Germany, on Monday evening at about 18:10. The blaze completely destroyed a wooden tool shed and an adjacent chicken coop. Firefighters rescued roughly 40 chickens by opening the stall and releasing the birds onto the property. No injuries were reported.

Around 50 emergency personnel from the fire services of Horneburg, Neukloster, Hedendorf, Buxtehude and Ladekop responded. While the fire was being fought, train traffic on the Hamburg‑Stade railway line was briefly restricted. Police have not determined the cause; arson is not ruled out and investigators are appealing for witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity near the site.
