Hosbec demands Imserso rate updates to prevent job losses

The hotel industry association Hosbec is calling on the Spanish government to revise the economic conditions of the Imserso social tourism program. The association warns that current rates are unsustainable due to rising costs and inflation, which is expected to reach nearly 5% for the first annual period of the program.

Hosbec reports that while the government updates pensions annually, the compensation paid to hotels per person per day remains frozen between 26 and 30 euros. The association argues that for the program to remain profitable, hotels require a minimum of 35 euros plus VAT per person per day.

Failure to adjust these rates could lead to a “desert effect” in key Valencian Community destinations such as Benidorm, Guardamar, Torrevieja, Calpe, Peñíscola, and Gandía, as establishments may opt out of the program. This withdrawal could jeopardize more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
