Hospital fire in Ludwigslust kills two and injures dozens

A fire broke out around 04:28 a.m. at the single‑bed, five‑story hospital in Ludwigslust, Germany. Initial reports indicate that at least two people died and a minimum of 34 were injured. The blaze is believed to have started in a patient’s room before spreading to the radiology wing.

The building housed 82 patients at the time, and all were evacuated to safe areas on the hospital grounds, some on wheelchairs. Hospital staff reported that none of the injured are in critical condition. The facility, with 160 beds, is the only acute‑care hospital for the town and surrounding region. Some departments may continue to operate in emergency mode.
