Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein confirms patient data breach
Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein has confirmed that unauthorized individuals accessed its patient databases, exposing personal and medical information. The compromised data includes names, CPF numbers, dates of birth, medical prescriptions, and exam results.
The incident, which was first identified in August, involved a ransomware attack and an extortion attempt by a criminal group. In response, the Federal Police launched Operation Insidioso in Joinville, Santa Catarina, to investigate suspects believed to have facilitated the data extraction.
Despite the breach, the hospital stated that its clinical systems, electronic medical records, and patient care services remained operational. Einstein has notified the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) and is contacting affected patients individually via email. As of the latest reports, the institution has not found evidence that the stolen information has been misused or shared improperly.
