Cyberattack on Hospital Israelita Einstein

Overview

Hospital Israelita Einstein in São Paulo, Brazil, confirmed a cyberattack involving unauthorized access to patient data. The compromised information includes names, CPF numbers, dates of birth, prescriptions, and exam results.

Following a two-month investigation, the Brazilian Federal Police launched ‘Operação Insidioso’ in Joinville, Santa Catarina. This operation includes search and seizure warrants and temporary arrest warrants for a suspect believed to have assisted a criminal group in extracting the data. Investigators identified the incident as a ransomware attack, noting that perpetrators attempted to extort the hospital by threatening to release the stolen material.

The hospital stated that electronic systems and patient care remain functional, and there is currently no evidence that the information has been misused. The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) has been notified, and the hospital is contacting affected patients via email.
