Hospital Santa Isabel leads July Green cancer prevention drive in Brazil
The Municipal Hospital Santa Isabel (HMSI) organized a special program on July 24 as part of the nationwide July Green campaign promoting awareness and early detection of head‑and‑neck cancer. The initiative, coordinated by the nursing management and the Permanent Education Nucleus, featured multidisciplinary teams circulating the hospital’s wards to inform patients about risk factors, warning signs and the value of early diagnosis. Doctors Marcos Maschi and Lívia Lyra delivered a lecture titled “Prevention and Early Diagnosis of Head‑and‑Neck Cancer” and the event concluded with a coffee‑break. Hospital staff distributed candy with educational messages, and nursing coordinator Leide Neria emphasized, “Prevention is the best path; our goal was to guide people to recognize symptoms so diagnosis can occur as early as possible.”
In the Amazonian municipality of Alta Floresta, the municipal health secretariat reinforced the same message during the World Head‑and‑Neck Cancer Prevention Day on July 27. Citing data from the National Cancer Institute (INCA) – an estimated 781,000 new cancer cases per year in Brazil, with head‑and‑neck tumors accounting for about 5.3% – local teams highlighted the importance of oral health, tobacco and alcohol avoidance, sun protection and regular dental check‑ups. The campaign, aligned with the Brazilian Association of Head‑and‑Neck Cancer (ACBG), aims to improve early detection and reduce mortality across the country.
