IMSS-Bienestar invests in hospital infrastructure and expansion
The IMSS-Bienestar program is implementing significant infrastructure upgrades and expansion projects across Mexico. In Tamaulipas, the state coordinator, Marggid Rodríguez Avendaño, reported that between 37 and 56 million pesos have been invested to renew hydrosanitary networks in five hospitals, addressing facilities with infrastructure up to 52 years old. These works included replacing water and drainage pipes and upgrading obsolete medical equipment such as tomography and MRI machines. The transition to the IMSS-Bienestar model in the state has reached approximately 78% completion.
In Nuevo Laredo, Mayor Carmen Lilia Cantú announced that a new 102-bed IMSS-Bienestar hospital could begin construction in early 2027, following the municipal government's donation of the necessary land.
Meanwhile, in Rosarito, medical staff at the General Hospital have reported a shortage of essential chemical reagents for critical tests, including PCR and creatinine. Doctors noted that patients are being referred to private laboratories or other facilities due to the lack of supplies, with authorities suggesting the issue might not be resolved until next year.
