Hospital Universitario Obispo Polanco to install new radiotherapy accelerator
The Hospital Universitario Obispo Polanco in Teruel is scheduled to receive a Versa HD model linear accelerator on Wednesday, October 14. The installation will be conducted by technicians from Elekta in collaboration with hospital engineers and radiophysicists.
The installation process is expected to last several weeks, followed by a period of calibration and quality verification supervised by the Hospital Radiofysics Service. Before the equipment can be used for patient treatment, the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear must conduct inspections and grant final authorization to ensure compliance with all administrative, legal, and radiological protection requirements.
This new technology provides the same capabilities as those available in other Aragonese hospitals, such as the Miguel Servet and San Jorge hospitals. The addition of this equipment aims to modernize oncology services in Teruel, allowing for comprehensive local care and reducing the need for patients to travel to Zaragoza for specialized radiotherapy treatments.
