Expansion of radiotherapy and oncology technology

Overview

Medical facilities in Mexico and Spain are expanding their oncology and diagnostic capabilities through the integration of advanced radiotherapy and imaging technologies.

In Querétaro, Mexico, the Hospital Infantil Teletón de Oncología (HITO) inaugurated an adaptive radiotherapy area using the Elekta Unity. This technology combines high-energy radiation with magnetic resonance imaging to allow real-time visualization of tumors, potentially reducing required radiation sessions by approximately 40 percent.

In Teruel, Spain, the Hospital Universitario Obispo Polanco is set to install a Versa HD linear accelerator. The installation and subsequent calibration process require oversight from the Hospital Radiofysics Service and final authorization from the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear. This upgrade is intended to modernize local oncology services and reduce the necessity for patients to travel to Zaragoza for specialized treatments.
