São Paulo State Issues Weather Alert as Cold Front Brings Winds Up to 100 km/h

The Defense Civil of São Paulo state issued a series of alerts beginning on 5 August as a cold front and an intensifying extratropical cyclone (a “ciclone bomba”) move across the region. Forecasts call for isolated to strong thunderstorms, rapid rain showers and wind gusts that may reach 100 km/h, especially along the coast, the eastern strip and mountainous areas.

The state government activated a Crisis Cabinet on 6 August, operating through 8 August, to coordinate monitoring and response. An orange alert (winds up to 60 km/h) started Thursday, escalating to a red alert (winds up to 100 km/h) on Friday and Saturday. Expected rainfall could total up to 40 mm, raising risks of flooding, landslides, power outages, fallen trees, damaged structures and hazardous sea conditions.
