Overview
Late July saw São Paulo enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures around 26 °C with humidity near 54 %. Forecasts warned of an approaching cold front that would lower temperatures and humidity later in the week. The week began with sunny, warm conditions and a gradual cooling trend as the front moved through Paraná toward southern and western São Paulo.
Early August brought a hot, dry air mass, pushing daytime highs to 27 °C in the capital and up to 34 °C in Adamantina, while relative humidity fell to about 30 %. Health advisories were issued for vulnerable groups, and isolated thunderstorms were expected, with rain forecast to return to Adamantina later in the week.
By the first week of August, the cold front intensified into an extratropical cyclone, prompting the state’s Defense Civil to issue orange and then red alerts for wind gusts up to 100 km/h, especially along the coast and in mountainous areas. A crisis cabinet was activated to coordinate response. Rainfall of up to 40 mm raised concerns about flooding, landslides, power outages and hazardous sea conditions, leading authorities to advise residents to secure loose objects and avoid sheltering under trees or metal structures.
