Hotel Glória undergoes R$ 400 million conversion in Rio de Janeiro

The historic Hotel Glória in Rio de Janeiro is being converted into a high-end residential complex known as Glória Residencial. After being closed since 2008, the first keys for the new apartments are scheduled to be delivered starting in September 2026.

Managed by Opportunity Fundo de Investimento Imobiliário in partnership with SIG Engenharia, the retrofit project has cost approximately R$ 400 million. The development will feature 266 apartments across three blocks on a 9,000-square-meter site, with unit sizes ranging from 77 to 311 square meters.

The original hotel, which opened in 1922 as Latin America’s first five-star establishment, was once located directly in front of the Praia do Russel. Due to decades of land reclamation and urban development, the beach has since disappeared, though the area remains a significant part of the Glória neighborhood.
