Hotel noise becomes top guest complaint after cleanliness

Noise has emerged as a primary concern for hotel guests, ranking as the top complaint following cleanliness. According to the hotel software and consulting firm ProStay, travelers increasingly view a good night of sleep as a fundamental component of the service they are paying for, especially given the growing emphasis on sleep for health and wellness.

Addressing these issues remains difficult for the hospitality industry because noise sources are highly varied. Problems range from internal mechanical sounds, such as loud air conditioning units, refrigerators, or elevators, to external factors like street traffic or thin walls that allow noise from neighboring guests to pass through. Mitigating these sounds often requires significant and costly renovations or structural build-outs.
