Houston man charged after shooting at cars and deputies
Demetri O'Neal Thomas, a 45-year-old man, has been charged following an incident in northeast Houston where he allegedly shot at moving vehicles and law enforcement deputies using an automatic weapon.
The Houston Police Department reported that three people were injured during the shooting, including a mother and daughter, but all victims are expected to recover. During the confrontation, Thomas reportedly refused to comply with police commands, leading officers to discharge their weapons and strike the suspect. Thomas was subsequently taken to a hospital.
Thomas faces multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Records indicate he previously served nine years in prison for aggravated assault and kidnapping after being jailed in 2012, before being paroled in 2015. The Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's Office are investigating the matter.
