Houston vehicle shooting and police confrontation

Overview

On August 15, a gunman opened fire indiscriminately on vehicles along Wayside Drive in Houston, injuring three people, including a mother and daughter. Law enforcement officers from the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety encountered the suspect and shot him after he failed to comply with commands to drop his weapon.

Following the investigation, 45-year-old Demetri O'Neal Thomas was identified and charged. He faces multiple counts of aggravated assault against a public servants and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities noted that Thomas had previously served nine years in prison for aggravated assault and kidnapping.
