Houthi detention: Elderly Yemeni man dies after torture in Al-Hudaydah

A 70-year-old Yemeni man, identified as Qasim Salem Ahmed Qadri, has died following his abduction and torture by Houthi militants in the Zabid district of Al-Hudaydah province. Qadri, who had hearing and vision impairments, was reportedly detained at a humanitarian aid distribution center after a Houthi supervisor discovered an outdated passport containing a stamp from a Saudi entity where he had worked decades ago.

Human rights sources report that Qadri was subjected to severe physical abuse, including beatings and the extraction of his teeth and nails, during his three-day disappearance. He was found in critical condition in the Badwah area and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a hospital. Qadri was the sole provider for four children with disabilities.

In a separate development, human rights organizations have renewed calls for the Houthis to disclose the whereabouts of journalist Wahid al-Sufi, who has been forcibly disappeared since April 2015. Groups including the Committee to Protect Journalists described al-Sufi’s case as one of the longest enforced disappearances of a journalist in Yemen.
