Yemen enters ‘full-scale war’ as government launches ‘Dawn of Yemen’ offensive
Yemen has entered a period of intense military escalation as the internationally recognized government launched ‘Dawn of Yemen,’ a major offensive aimed at restoring state institutions and ending Houthi control. The Yemeni Armed Forces reported conducting over 2,750 targeting operations within a 24-hour window, resulting in the neutralization of more than 1,400 Houthi members and the destruction or disabling of over 250 military vehicles and pieces of equipment.
In response, the Arab Coalition announced the destruction of 136 military targets within Houthi-controlled areas and stated it is working to dismantle the militia's ballistic missile network. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that 77 airstrikes and missiles targeted civilian areas in provinces including Sanaa, Marib, and Saada over a 24-hour period.
At the UN Security Council, Yemen’s permanent representative, Ambassador Abdullah Ali Fadhel al-Saadi, called for decisive international action to curb the flow of Iranian-backed weapons and technology to the Houthis. He highlighted that the conflict has caused significant humanitarian distress, with approximately 200,000 people internally displaced and thousands more fleeing to Djibouti. UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg warned that the country has returned to a state of ‘full-scale war,’ noting that battlefield gains cannot replace the political negotiations required for a lasting peace.
