Houthi rebels seize Yemen's Red Sea coast and strike Saudi Arabia FAST-MOVING
Houthi rebels have significantly expanded their control over Yemen’s Red Sea coast, seizing strategic locations including the port of Mocha, the town of Dhubab, and Mayun Island. This advance has granted the group dominance over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical maritime chokepoint for global trade and energy transport.
The military escalation has extended into Saudi Arabia, with Houthi forces claiming responsibility for drone and missile strikes against a military base in the Sharurah region. Additionally, a projectile strike in the Jazan region wounded two people and caused damage to a mosque and several buildings. Saudi Civil Defence issued emergency alerts for the Khamis Mushait and Abha areas following these incidents.
The renewed fighting has triggered a humanitarian crisis, with the United Nations warning of alarmingly rising civilian displacement. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have publicly celebrated the Houthi military gains, describing them as a “divine triumph.”
