Yemeni forces reclaim Sanamat in Taiz amid rising casualties

Yemeni government forces have reclaimed the Sanamat area in southern Taiz governorate, seizing heavy and medium weaponry left behind by retreating Houthi fighters. This advancement is part of the ‘Dawn of Yemen’ operation launched on October 5.

In Taiz, military reports indicate significant combat losses for the Houthi group, claiming 100 deaths and 190 injuries following battles and 16 airstrikes. Simultaneously, civilian casualties have risen sharply. The Yemeni Human Rights and Liberties Network documented 29 civilian deaths and 36 injuries over a 48-hour period due to Houthi attacks. Specific incidents include a woman killed by sniper fire in the Aqaqah neighborhood and eight civilians killed by shelling in Al-Maqdi village.

Beyond Taiz, military drones targeted Houthi weapons warehouses in Marib and military fortifications in Al-Jouf. Local authorities have condemned the targeting of residential areas as war crimes, calling for international intervention to protect civilians amid the escalating conflict.
