During the discussions, Houthi officials reportedly pledged to uphold the 2025 ceasefire agreement with the United States and stated they do not intend to attack American vessels. The delegation included Mohammad Abdulsalam, a senior official subject to U.S. sanctions, and Abdelmalik al-Ajri. While the Houthis indicated they would not target Israeli or general commercial ships, they noted that Saudi-linked shipping would be treated separately.

The U.S. State Department did not officially confirm the meeting but emphasized that protecting freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and preventing the spread of terrorism remain core American interests. This diplomatic engagement comes amid heightened military tensions, as the Houthis have launched drone and missile strikes against Saudi Arabian targets, including the Yanbu oil port and the Khamis Mushait airbase, and as Saudi warplanes conduct airstrikes across several Yemeni provinces.
