Houthis deny Saudi claims of attack on Medina power station

The Houthi movement has denied accusations from a Saudi-led coalition that it targeted a power station in Medina. Major General Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the coalition, alleged that the militants struck the Taibah electricity distribution station, which supplies power to the Prophet’s Mosque. The coalition described the incident as a “cowardly terrorist act” and part of a campaign to target the Two Holy Mosques.

A senior Houthi official rejected the claims, calling them a “lie” intended to damage the group's reputation. This follows a similar dispute in mid-September, when Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi dismissed Saudi claims of a drone launch toward Mecca as a “heinous lie.”

The allegations have drawn international reactions. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that any threat to the sanctity of Mecca and Medina is a “red line that must never be crossed.” Similarly, Turkish government spokesman Burhanettin Duran denounced the alleged attack, calling it an “unacceptable affront” to the Islamic world and affirming Türkiye’s support for Saudi Arabia.
