Houthis launch ballistic missile strikes in Yemen and target Red Sea shipping lanes
Houthi militia forces launched ballistic missile attacks targeting residential areas in the Al-Khokha district of Yemen’s Hodeidah province. One projectile impacted near a local school and a community prayer site, destroying an unoccupied residential property and causing structural damage to nearby facilities. No casualties were reported from the strike.
In addition to the strikes on mainland residential areas, Houthi forces targeted several islands overlooking critical Red Sea shipping lanes with ballistic missiles. Concurrently, the Yemeni navy intercepted and downed a Houthi-operated drone over the Red Sea.
The escalation follows a period of increased Houthi activity, including a declared maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia. Recent satellite imagery has indicated damage to oil storage infrastructure at Saudi Aramco facilities in Jazan. In response to the ongoing threats, Saudi officials have indicated a readiness to protect the kingdom by any means necessary if attacks continue.
