HoverAir Versa faces U.S. restrictions amid drone component bans

The HoverAir Versa, marketed as a ‘flying pocket camera’ by Shenzhen-based Zero Zero Robotics, appears to have been blocked from the U.S. market due to national security regulations. Although the company attempted to bypass drone restrictions by classifying the device as a camera with detachable rotors, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has flagged foreign-produced drones and critical components as unacceptable risks.

While the device initially received FCC radio certification as a digital device rather than an unmanned aircraft, the FCC’s ‘Covered List’ includes foreign cameras that are part of flight systems. Consequently, Zero Zero Robotics stopped accepting U.S. orders on August 21, following a brief period of radio approval and an Indiegogo campaign. This development aligns with broader U.S. efforts to restrict foreign-made drone technology on national security grounds.
