HOVERAir, a brand under Zero Zero Robotics, has announced the VERSA, a modular hybrid device that functions as both a handheld three-axis pocket gimbal camera and an autonomous drone. Because the detachable Flight Kit contains no radio frequency transmitters, the company sought to have the camera module and flight apparatus treated separately, allowing the product to bypass certain foreign equipment bans. The complete setup weighs approximately 230 grams, keeping it below the threshold for FAA registration for recreational users.

However, the product’s entry into the U.S. market has faced significant setbacks. Despite receiving initial FCC radio certification as a digital device, the FCC has flagged foreign-produced drones and critical components as unacceptable risks. The FCC’s ‘Covered List’ includes foreign cameras that are part of flight systems, effectively blocking the device due to national security regulations. Following these developments, Zero Zero Robotics stopped accepting U.S. orders on August 21, 2026. The product remains part of an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, with a pre-sale scheduled for Japan in mid-September and a showcase at IFA Berlin.
