Apple MacBook Pro redesign to feature OLED touchscreen and lighter chassis

Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign of the MacBook Pro, expected to launch between October and November 2026. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the upcoming high-end models will feature Tandem OLED displays and touchscreen capabilities for the first time in the Mac lineup.

A key focus of this overhaul is portability. Apple engineers have reportedly reengineered the internal architecture by miniaturizing components and rearranging the layout to make the devices “significantly lighter” and thinner. This change is particularly notable for the 16-inch model, which currently weighs up to 4.8 pounds.

The new hardware will likely utilize existing M5 Pro and M5 Max silicon, as Apple is expected to accelerate the transition to the M7 chip generation. To support these new features, Apple is testing macOS 27, codenamed “Golden Gate,” which includes code for touch gestures in core applications like Safari, Photos, and Notes, as well as support for the Dynamic Island interface.
