Hradec Králové debates status of historical well

Debate has emerged in Hradec Králové regarding the fate of a historical Secession-style well located on Velké náměstí. The well is currently encased in a wooden structure titled ‘Corral’, a temporary art installation by the Gallery of Modern Art designed to provoke thought about the use of public space.

Opposition representative Ivan Picek has criticized the city council for refusing to designate the well as a cultural monument. Picek argued that such a designation would facilitate easier access to subsidies for its repair, noting the contradiction of spending 30 million CZK on a new fountain while the existing one remains obscured by scaffolding.
