North Macedonia to build two gas interconnectors

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced that the construction of two gas pipeline interconnectors with neighboring countries will significantly increase the nation's geostrategic importance. One interconnector, connecting with a southern neighbor, is expected to be operational by the end of the first half of next year, while the second, connecting with a northern neighbor, is slated for completion by the end of 2028.

Mickoski stated that these projects will attract investors interested in gas-powered electricity production capacities. Furthermore, the infrastructure will allow for the potential conversion and modernization of existing coal-fired power plants to gas, helping to preserve jobs and maintain production. The Prime Minister noted that ESM AD is currently in discussions with the World Bank regarding the project.

In separate remarks, Mickoski addressed the possibility of early parliamentary elections, stating that while the government is working toward a full four-year mandate, the political party remains prepared for elections at any time. He emphasized that the current governing coalition remains stable.
