Hrvatske autoceste restarts tender for southern highway section
Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) is proceeding with a new public procurement process for a challenging 20-kilometer section of the A1 motorway in southern Croatia. The project, which connects Metković to Dubrovnik, involves two main segments: Rudine to Slano (9 km) and Slano to PUO Mravinjac (11.5 km).
Due to the complex karst terrain characterized by steep slopes and deep ravines, the construction will require significant engineering works, including several tunnels such as Katina, Crvena greda, and Debela ljut. Current estimates suggest the two sectors could cost approximately 468 million euros, though the high complexity of the terrain may drive costs higher.
The procurement process follows a previous attempt that was canceled in May of this year after all bids were deemed too expensive. A construction company from Cavtat has submitted a competitive bid for this new round.
