Croatia A1 motorway southern section construction

Overview

Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) is managing the procurement process for a complex section of the A1 motorway in southern Croatia, intended to connect Metković to Dubrovnik. This follows a previous tender attempt in May that was canceled because all submitted bids were considered too expensive.

The current project involves two main segments: the 9 km Rudine to Slano sub-section and the 11.5 km Slano to PUO Mravinjac segment. Due to the difficult karst terrain, the construction requires significant engineering, including the Katina, Crvena greda, and Debela ljut tunnels. Total costs for the two sectors are estimated at approximately 468 million euros, though complexity may increase this figure.

In the most recent development, bids have been opened for the Rudine to Slano section. Seven companies submitted tenders, with the lowest bid of €258,989,275.10 provided by a consortium of TEXO MOLIOR D. O. O. and EURO-ASFALT d. o. o. Other bidders include China Road and Bridge Corporation, Afcons Infrastructure Limited, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Ozaltin Insaat, Cengiz Insaat, and Strabag. A final decision will be made based on the most economically advantageous offer once procurement and legal requirements are finalized.
