HTX, Bitget, and MEXC restrict cryptocurrency services in Russia

Major cryptocurrency exchanges, including HTX, Bitget, and MEXC, have implemented restrictions on users located in or registered in Russia. These moves follow increased regulatory and sanctions pressure from international bodies.

HTX, linked to Justin Sun, reportedly added Russia to its list of restricted jurisdictions in its updated User Agreement. The exchange reserves the right to limit withdrawals, restrict product access, and close accounts. This follows the United Kingdom designating HTX’s associated entity, Huobi Global S. A., in May and the European Union introducing additional measures in July targeting cryptocurrency-related financial activity connected to Russia.

Bitget and MEXC also announced withdrawals from the region. Bitget updated its terms to include Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, barring affected customers from opening new trades as of October 18. MEXC announced its withdrawal from Russia and Belarus on October 20, citing the need to comply with global regulatory requirements. While these platforms have restricted access, specific timelines for asset withdrawals and account closures vary by exchange.
