Huawei unveils Pura X Max wide-format foldable smartphone

Huawei has introduced the Pura X Max, a foldable smartphone designed with a wider aspect ratio than traditional tall, narrow foldables. Launched in the Chinese market on April 20, 2026, with a price of 10,999 yuan, the device aims to prioritize content consumption by mimicking the form factor of a small book or a mini-tablet.

The Pura X Max features a 5.4-inch OLED display when closed and expands to a 7.7-inch flexible OLED panel when opened. The screen utilizes LTPO 2.0 technology with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz. This wider design is intended to improve multitasking and media viewing compared to existing foldable models.

Following the reception of the Pura X series, reports suggest Huawei is also developing a non-foldable, wide-screen smartphone in the Pura family. This upcoming device is expected to feature a 16:10 aspect ratio to provide a similar visual experience to the foldables without the thickness or crease associated with folding mechanisms. A potential debut for this wide-screen model is rumored for September.
