Huawei unveils ultra-fast EV charging platform

Huawei has unveiled an ultra-fast charging platform designed to address the limitations of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Revealed at the ‘Power2Drive’ event during ‘The Smarter E’ exhibition in Munich, the technology claims to add approximately 200 kilometers of driving range in just five minutes.

The platform utilizes a direct current (DC) architecture combined with an integrated battery energy storage system and liquid cooling technology. By storing electricity in station batteries beforehand, the system can discharge high power to vehicles during peak demand without overstressing the local electrical grid. This approach allows high-capacity stations to operate on connections as low as 50 kW, potentially reducing installation timelines from months to weeks.

The system features a total capacity of up to 720 kW, with voltage ranges between 150 and 1000 volts. To manage the heat generated by such high power, Huawei employs a closed-loop liquid cooling system that covers power units, distributors, and charging cables. The system has received Level 1 safety certification from TÜV and is designed for a 10-year operational lifespan.
