Huawei's wide-screen phone success drives new Android hardware trends
Following the commercial success of Huawei’s Pura X View, which sold over 180,000 units on its first day in China, several Android manufacturers are developing wide-screen smartphones. These devices move away from the traditional tall, narrow aspect ratio toward a wider, passport-like format without the use of a hinge.
Oppo is reportedly working on a prototype, possibly named the Reno X, which may feature a 200MP main camera and a high-capacity battery. Honor is also said to be in development of a wide-screen device.
Additionally, Coolpad is preparing to launch an affordable wide-screen smartphone in China this October. Priced at approximately 999 yuan, the device features a 6.3-inch LCD screen. The manufacturer, in collaboration with Shanghai Droi Technology, is positioning the wide format as an ideal interface for “agentic AI,” providing more screen real estate for reading text and managing AI-driven tasks.
