Hubert Thuma expelled from Romania's PNL and vows legal challenge
Hubert Thuma, president of the Ilfov County Council, announced on Facebook that he was expelled from the National Liberal Party (PNL) after 25 years of elected service. He denounced party leader Ilie Bolojan as “the man who lived off perks he now criticises” and warned that the purge will shrink PNL’s parliamentary weight from about 15% to 10%, making it “smaller, weaker and more obedient.” Thuma said the expulsion targeted liberals who backed Adrian Veștea for prime minister and accused him of being removed for being “too close to PSD.” He pledged to use all legal avenues to contest the decision and will not resign his elected mandate.
Thuma also criticised Bolojan’s openness to supporting a minority government led by PSD, questioning who the “PSD‑ists” inside PNL really are.
