Hue City court sentences drug trafficker to death

The People's Court of Hue City has sentenced five individuals for the illegal sale of over 4.3 kg of various narcotics, including methamphetamine, MDMA, ketamine, and heroin. The ring leader, Nguyễn Đình Chiến (born 1990), received the death penalty. Chiến was identified as having organized the illegal distribution network in the Hue City area between January 2025 and September 2025.

Hồ Văn Thanh Hưng (born 1974) was sentenced to life imprisonment for acting as a key accomplice responsible for receiving and delivering drugs to customers. Three other defendants received prison terms ranging from six to nine years: Nguyễn Thanh Giàu received nine years, Trần Ngọc Mẫn received eight years, and Lê Thị Tám received six years.

Investigation records indicate that Chiến had a prior criminal record involving a 16-year sentence for drug trafficking. The court considered several mitigating factors during sentencing, including the defendants' cooperation with authorities and personal family circumstances.
