Hue City Police warn of Zalo scams targeting parents

Police in Hue City have issued a warning regarding a new scam targeting parents via the Zalo messaging app. Fraudsters are impersonating police officers to claim that children's electronic identity information is incorrect or requires urgent updates.

To gain trust, scammers use sophisticated methods, including video calls with deepfake technology to mimic police uniforms and spoofing official government phone numbers. They pressure victims by claiming that failure to comply will negatively impact their children's schooling or administrative procedures.

Once trust is established, criminals direct parents to click suspicious links, download unknown applications, or provide sensitive data such as passwords and OTP codes. This allows them to seize control of mobile devices, steal biometric data, and commit financial theft. Authorities advise citizens to never perform identity procedures via instructions from strangers on social media and to verify all requests through official channels.
