Hue cracks down on stalled megaprojects and contractor delays

A large‑scale resort project in Hue, the Vinconstec‑Huế urban‑tourism development, has remained abandoned for years. Initiated in 2009 with an investment of more than VND 600 billion, construction stopped in 2012 amid land‑compensation disputes. The site now shows extensive decay, with unfinished buildings littered with waste and local residents using the structures for storage.

The city government has intensified actions against other delayed infrastructure works. Projects such as the Vỹ Dạ bridge upgrade (VND 114 billion), the Cultural‑Sports Square (VND 200 billion) and the road to Phú Bài Airport (VND 1 140 billion) have missed multiple deadlines. Authorities have terminated contracts with under‑performing contractors, imposed penalties, and opened new bidding processes to resume construction. A special task force monitors progress and pushes for faster land‑acquisition and resettlement to keep the projects on track for completion between 2026 and 2027.
