Vietnam infrastructure: Bridge completions, delays, and road safety issues

Various infrastructure and transportation developments are underway across Vietnam, ranging from new completions to long-delayed projects and maintenance issues.

In Vinh Long, the Kinh Ngay Bridge has been inaugurated, providing a permanent concrete connection for residents of Kinh Ngay islet to the mainland. Meanwhile, the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, a key component of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, is nearing completion with over 96% of the workload finished.

In Thua Thien - Hue, construction has resumed on the Vy Da and Nhu Y River bridge upgrades following a change in contractors, with a target completion date before the 2027 Lunar New Year. Conversely, a planned rest stop on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway near Hue has faced nearly a decade of delays due to land clearance difficulties.

In Ho Chi Minh City, residents have reported hazardous road conditions, including potholes and poor lighting in the Binh Thuan bridge underpass and on Ho Van Long Street. Additionally, despite new flexible lane regulations on Binh Loi 2 Bridge designed to aid motorcyclists, many riders continue to enter lanes reserved exclusively for automobiles, creating safety risks.
