Regional reforestation initiatives advance across Latin America

Various regional initiatives focused on reforestation and environmental conservation are being implemented across Latin America.

In Chile, the Municipality of Huechuraba, alongside Claro Chile and Fundación Reforestemos, is advancing the Parque El Rosal project. This initiative aims to create an 18-kilometer ecological corridor connecting northern Santiago to the Metropolitan Park, with a goal of planting 2,000 trees annually by 2030. Currently, 610 native trees have been planted.

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Energy and Mines conducted a cleaning and reforestation campaign in the Cotuí region. This effort involved planting 240 native seedlings, such as cedar and bamboo, in the Colorao, Zinc, and Margajita river basins to protect water sources and reduce soil erosion.

In Mexico, several local efforts are underway: the government of Tehuacán expanded a pollinator garden with over 100 native specimens; volunteers reforested the Cañón de San Lorenzo in Saltillo to combat rising temperatures; and the city of Veracruz planted approximately 52 native trees, including mulato and uvero, along its Malecón to improve the urban environment.
