Huelva mining potential highlighted to attract European investment

The MMH event has opened to highlight the mining potential of Huelva, Spain, and attract European investment. The province is a key player in the European mining landscape due to the Iberian Pyrite Belt, a geological formation described as ‘one of the most important metallogenetic provinces in the world.’

Key municipalities such as Minas de Riotinto, Calañas, Valverde, and Almonaster la Real maintain deep historical ties to extractive activities. The increasing demand for metals to support electrification and renewable energy sectors has heightened interest in the region, though it also presents challenges regarding environmental sustainability, skilled employment, and economic diversification.

The Diputación de Huelva is participating in the event to position the province as a European mining reference. The initiative aims to showcase the local mining model, industrial capabilities, and environmental commitments to bolster European strategic autonomy and secure the supply of critical raw materials.
