Hugo Deck reflects on Diagonale des Fous victory

French trail runner Hugo Deck has shared his reflections following his victory in the Diagonale des Fous, a 180 km race in Réunion. Deck completed the course in 22 hours and 54 minutes.

Deck emphasized the importance of maintaining a sense of joy and lightness despite the increasing professionalization of the sport. He noted that the experience involved a significant internal dialogue during the nearly 23-hour effort. During the race, he faced a moment of stress at the 30 km mark when his mother was not at the scheduled replenishment station, leading him to receive assistance from competitor Jean-Philippe Tschumi.

Deck also highlighted the emotional support of his family, noting that his parents have supported his passion since before it became his profession.
