Hugo named the world's tallest living horse

Hugo, a four-year-old Shire horse living in central England, has been officially named the tallest living horse on Earth. The animal was measured by a veterinarian at just over 198 centimeters while standing barefoot to ensure accuracy, earning him a spot in the Guinness World Records 2027 book.

Despite the title, Hugo is not yet fully grown. Owner Brett Masters noted that male Shire horses typically continue to develop until they are approximately eight and a half years old. To manage the physical strain of his rapid growth, Hugo receives specialized care from a team including a chiropractor, a dentist, and a veterinarian who monitors his hyperactive growth plates.

While Hugo holds the title for the tallest living horse, he remains shorter than previous record-holders such as Big Jake, who stood over 210 centimeters, and the all-time record holder, Sampson (also known as Mammoth), who reached approximately 219 centimeters.
