Hull City clinches Premier League promotion under coach Sergej Jakirović

Hull City returned to the Premier League after a nine‑year absence by winning the Championship playoff final at Wembley. Coach Sergej Jakirović oversaw a 1‑0 victory over Middlesbrough, with Oli McBurnie scoring in the 95th minute. The win is expected to generate more than €200 million in revenue for the club.

Celebrations featured Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur holding the trophy draped in the Croatian flag and players chanting “Sergej’s barmy army.” Jakirović, who said his original task was to keep the club in the Championship, was seen entering the locker room with a medal and urging the “tigers” forward. Club owner Acun Ilıcalı, who had promised a private‑jet flight to Las Vegas for a promotion, confirmed he will honour the pledge.
