Human Remains Discovered at Sites in Mexico and Austria

Archaeologists excavating a planned railway corridor near Mexico City and Querétaro uncovered a multi‑tiered stone altar containing four skulls, additional skeletal fragments, ceramic vessels, obsidian shards and small blades. The find, dated to the Tollan phase of Tula (c. 900‑1150 CE), was made about 300 m from the protected zone of the ancient Toltec city of Tula Chico.

Separately, construction workers in Ranshofen, Austria, uncovered the remains of 120 young men while digging a building site. The discovery, described as unprecedented in Central Europe, has prompted a forensic investigation to determine the circumstances of the burials.
