Human Rights Report and Lawsuit Reveal Abuse at Camp East Montana ICE Detention Center

A lawsuit filed in Texas against the operators of Camp East Montana, the largest ICE detention facility, alleges extensive solitary‑confinement abuse, medical neglect and multiple suicide deaths. The complaint cites the case of Cuban immigrant Geraldo Lunas Campos, who died after a suicide attempt and alleged mistreatment, and references a Solitary Watch study linking solitary confinement to at least ten of 53 suicides in ICE custody.

An accompanying report by the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights Watch describes the detention center as a “graveyard for living people.” Interviews with dozens of detainees reveal denied medical care, poor food, lack of sunlight, physical abuse by staff and severe psychological distress. Many detainees reported witnessing assaults, being punished for basic needs, and suffering deteriorating health conditions such as untreated diabetes and hypertension.
