Humanitarian aid efforts target flood and health needs in Nigeria

Humanitarian efforts are underway in Nigeria to support communities facing environmental and seasonal challenges. In the Makoko riverine community in Lagos, the My People First Foundation distributed hundreds of mosquito nets and raincoats to residents. The initiative aims to protect households from mosquito exposure and assist those whose livelihoods depend on navigating waterways during the rainy season.

In Rivers State, the Ogoni Youth Federation has called on the state government to extend its flood relief programme to Ogoniland. The federation is requesting N200,000 in cash assistance and one year of free healthcare for verified victims in more than 23 affected communities, including Nyokhana, Lueku, and Bera. The appeal follows government relief packages provided to other areas, such as Eneka, as flooding continues to damage homes, farmlands, and local livelihoods.
